Other Information:Arthur was educated at The High School, Swindon, co Wilts, and at Edinburgh University, then became a Clerk at the Rotherhithe Conservation and Unionist Association. He joined the R.A.M.C. in June 1915, and entered the war in France on 2nd October 1915. He died at No 53 General Hospital, Boulogne, from septicemia and heart failure, contracted whist on active service. One of Arthur's comrades wrote: "He was a most generous man, an optimist, a worker, a thinker and a credit to the ambulance." His Commanding Officer wrote: "I would like also to tell you that he was very popular with officers and men of this unit, and that we feel his loss. He was always most reliable. I am always sorry to lose good men." Arthur was the son of Commander William Lynd Martin, (retd.) R.N., and his wife, Albinia Blanche Violett (Daughter of George Rolleston); and the husband of Edith (Daughter of Henry Brown) - married at Holy Trinity Church, Fareham, co Hants on 30th October 1901.
