Other Information:William was educated at Guy's Hospital, entering in 1909, having won the Entrance Scholarship in Arts - he qualified in 1915 with the M.B., B.S. (Lond.). He was described as being quiet and reserved but warm, with an affectionate disposition, and had the restless enthusiasm of a genius. During his career at Guy's, William won both the Junior Proficiency Prize and the Wooldridge Memorial Prize in physiology; in 1914 he was prize essayist of the Physical Society, and in the same year won the Beaney Prize for pathology. He joined up as soon as he had qualified and was attached to the 5th Bn. Royal Berkshire Regiment. He entered the war in France on 29th January 1916 and remained with this battalion until he was killed by a shell whilst attending to the wounded.
