Other Information:William gained his medical education at at the universities of Edinburgh and Aberdeen, qualifying L.R.C.P., L.R.C.S. in 1881. He gained a commission within the Medical Services at the rank of Surgeon Captain on 31st January 1885, then gained promotions of Major on 1st May 1897 and Lieutenant Colonel on 31st January 1905. When war broke out William was stationed at Woking. He travelled to Aldershot to form No 7 Stationary Hospital, becoming the Commanding Officer. He travelled with the unit from Southampton to Boulogne, entering the war in France on 15th August 1914.
